Date: 10/23/06 (most likely to be changed to 10.20)
Time: 8 PM
Location: Bovard Auditorium
Description: This event is a performance by a LA based modern dance company called Diavolo. The company is made up of dancers, actors, and gymnasts, and their pieces are choreographed collaboratively, often based around life-size, very surreal set pieces. Many of these set pieces are actually just versions of everyday objects, like doors or stairways, but they are utilized in such an innovative way and in the context of such breathtaking performances that they end up taking on a completely new meaning by the end of each piece. They have toured for years at the vanguard of the modern dance movement nationally and internationally, and their pieces range from the dream-like, to the political. We will be opening up all of Bovard for the event, and General Admission tickets will be sold to the public. Students with IDs will have free admission to the event, and all guests will be seated on a first come first serve basis.
Artwork: Just something really cool that makes good use of the images of the dancers (which I should have for you on a disk by Thursday). Whether its just a single, large photo of the company mid-movement, or a mongtage of several photos, i really want to capitalize on the still images of the dancers so that it will catch peoples eye. Also, it needs to say:
"Diavolo
Jacques Heim, Artistic Director"
and make sure it says free admission with student ID.
Alternative Adverstising: Getting DT to write an article, cardboard posters up by the ticket office, school of theater listserve, class announcements, banners, using glass casing to advertise, getting on visions and voices web page.
