Performing Arts: Diavlo Dance Theater

Date: 10/23/06 (most likely to be changed to 10.20)
Time: 8 PM
Location: Bovard Auditorium
Description: This event is a performance by a LA based modern dance company called Diavolo. The company is made up of dancers, actors, and gymnasts, and their pieces are choreographed collaboratively, often based around life-size, very surreal set pieces. Many of these set pieces are actually just versions of everyday objects, like doors or stairways, but they are utilized in such an innovative way and in the context of such breathtaking performances that they end up taking on a completely new meaning by the end of each piece. They have toured for years at the vanguard of the modern dance movement nationally and internationally, and their pieces range from the dream-like, to the political. We will be opening up all of Bovard for the event, and General Admission tickets will be sold to the public. Students with ID’s will have free admission to the event, and all guests will be seated on a first come first serve basis.

Artwork: Just something really cool that makes good use of the images of the dancers (which I should have for you on a disk by Thursday). Whether its just a single, large photo of the company mid-movement, or a mongtage of several photos, i really want to capitalize on the still images of the dancers so that it will catch peoples eye. Also, it needs to say:

"Diavolo
Jacques Heim, Artistic Director"

and make sure it says free admission with student ID.

Alterna
tive Adverstising: Getting DT to write an article, cardboard posters up by the ticket office, school of theater listserve, class announcements, banners, using glass casing to advertise, getting on visions and voices web page.

Task List - Week 9/19

Thanks to all of you who came out to the meeting today...there was a lot to go over and so please be patient with the task list. Communication is key, so just send an e-mail or make a note on the blog to let us know if something is not working for you...once again...thank you for all your help so far.

General:
Please check out the Facebook Program Board profile (if you do not have the log-in information please send an email to Julie, Raiza or Mary for it) and send friend requests to a variety of people (about 10 to 15 would be a good number).

Remember when writing advisor e-mails, please send a draft to Julie first.

Press Kits: Julie will be sending out contact information for the assemblies and committees in order to start compiling the information. The assembly or committee for which you signed up will be put on the blog and open spots will be posted so others who did not attend the meeting can choose from what is left. For better explanation on this task please
await a posting from Julie.

Member Organizations: Often times members of the committee have the task of compiling contact information for a variety of member organizations. In order to avoid repetitive work we would like to compile one list which we can continually reference. Therefore, this week as you collect the names and emails for different member organizations (such as academic organizations) please forward that information on to Mary who is compiling the "official" list. Thank you.

Advisor Lists: Armando is currently working on updating this list.

Please do not forget to check back with the blog regularly for updated information.
